Operator exposure, agrochemicals and biocides

Over the years, CEHTRA has developed Standard Operating Procedures and standard schedules of operations necessary to produce surveys matching the requirements of Good Laboratory Practice.
The team has worked on well over 20 exposure studies for agrochemicals registration, conducted in all parts of the world, and involving external monitoring or biomonitoring (urine or plasma samples).
Generating meaningful and reliable data in outdoor and indoor conditions is part of CEHTRA’s know-how, and deals with the many organizational and metrological challenges to be met beyond the techniques applicable to indoor workplaces monitoring.
CEHTRA is in an excellent position to use this know-how to characterize the exposure of workers not active at an engineered workplace, e.g. at works in the building industry, in remediation operations at contaminated sites, etc.
Such studies are supervised by members of the team who are experienced in assessing risks to human health: they have the capacity to advise our clients on the most effective survey design, incorporating their needs and objectives.

The Plant Protection Product team has also developed and used many new worker exposure models, based on both existing worker studies and on new studies they have generated. This work also includes modeling for seed treatment, garden and amenities use. Development of these models involved the analysis of more than 100 worker exposure studies, and the generation of new studies, a unique and extensive experience within the E.U.
Pierre-Gérard Pontal, along with other recognized governmental, academic and industry experts, was a member of the expert team that designed EUROPOEM - the model financed by the EU commission to develop a common E.U. Model. During this time he acquired a thorough knowledge of the E.U. exposure requirements, as well as an efficient network of contacts in this critical area. The CEHTRA team now continues the work on human exposure related issues, especially with ECPA.

In addition to these new models, the team has the extensive experience in using other regulatory exposure models, such as UK POEM, the BBA model, ConsExpo, PHED, in addition to the models developed within the Biocides directive.
