CEHTRA participated in the CHESAR Training session at Brussels/ReachCentrum on the 14 July 2010. CHESAR is a powerful tool developed by ECHA in order to harmonise the risk assessment of chemicals under the REACH regulation. Despite some shortcomings (eg, no version available so far for internal networks, no risk assessment possible for the consumer,...), it appears that this is a promising and interesting tool especially for the flexibility it will provide in the risk assessment procedure. We understand that it will be fully operational in time for the next REACH deadlines.

(Q)SAR Application Toolbox: Public Discussion Forum on the Internet |
 An internet-based public discussion forum for users of the OECD (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is now available. The (Q)SAR Application Toolbox is a software application intended to be used by governments, industry and other stakeholders to fill gaps in (eco)toxicity data needed for assessing the hazards of chemicals. On this discussion forum, users of the Toolbox can exchange experience with using the software (tips and tricks), seek guidance, exchange databases, exchange user defined profilers and QSARs, and make suggestions for improvements.”

We would like to congratulate Julien LEGHAIT who has received the second highest Phytopharma 2010 award from the the Pesticides French Group sponsored by Bayer Crop Science for his Ph.D thesis, undertaken at, INRA-ENVT (The National Institute for Agronomical Research), UMR181 unit of experimental pathophysiology and toxicology, and entitled : "Evaluation du potentiel perturbateur thyroïdien du fipronil chez deux espèces: le rat et le mouton" (An evaluation of the potential of fipronil as a thyroid disruptor in two species: the rat and the sheep).
The prize was presented to him during the GFP 2010 symposium at Banyul-Sur-Mer, the 26 of may 2010
